PTE Academic is an English proficiency test used for study abroad, visa-related applications, and some professional pathways. It measures academic English across speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
For Nepali students, it is commonly used for university admission in destinations such as Australia, the UK, New Zealand, and many institutions in Canada and the USA.
Preparation time depends mostly on your present English level and how consistently you practice. Students with a strong English base usually need a shorter focused preparation period, while beginners need more time to build fundamentals first.
| English Level | Prep Time | Daily Practice | Main Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced | 2-4 weeks | 2-3 hours | Mock tests and weak-area fixes |
| Intermediate | 4-6 weeks | 2-3 hours | Skill building plus regular mocks |
| Beginner | 6-8 weeks | 3-4 hours | Grammar, vocabulary, and core task practice |
| Complete beginner | 8-12+ weeks | 3-4 hours | English basics before full PTE strategy |
Avenue recommends at least 4 to 5 full scored mock tests before your real exam, especially for Repeat Sentence and Write From Dictation.
Neither test is automatically easier for everyone. PTE suits students who are comfortable with computers, quick pacing, and standardized speaking into a microphone. IELTS suits students who prefer a human speaking examiner and more traditional test flow.
| Factor | PTE | IELTS |
|---|---|---|
| Test format | Fully computer-based | Paper or computer, with human speaking test |
| Speaking | Recorded on computer | Face-to-face or video call with examiner |
| Results | Usually 2 days, up to 5 business days | Typically 1-5 days on computer, 13 days on paper |
| Recognition | 3,500+ institutions | 12,500+ organisations in 140+ countries |
| Best for | Students who like speed and computer testing | Students who prefer a human interaction style |
The exact score depends on the country, institution, course level, and visa route. The figures below are broad planning ranges, not guaranteed admission cutoffs.
| Study Level | Common Planning Range |
|---|---|
| Foundation / Diploma | Around 42-50 |
| Bachelor’s | Usually 50-58 |
| Master’s / Postgraduate | Usually 58-65 |
| Highly competitive programs | 65+ may be preferred |
Always verify both the university requirement and the current visa requirement before you book your test.
Pearson does not currently show one fixed Nepal NPR fee on a public static page that stays visible without going through the booking flow. In practice, the final amount shown to students can vary with booking market, exchange rate, taxes, and timing.
For that reason, Avenue recommends checking the live myPTE booking price before payment instead of relying on older screenshots or social posts.
This is an Avenue guidance note based on current Pearson public information availability. The exact amount should be confirmed in the live Pearson booking system.
Pearson’s current handbook says results are typically available in two days, and they aim to provide them within five business days of the test date.
Once the result is ready, you receive an email and can view or download the score report from your myPTE account.
Pearson added two new speaking task types to PTE Academic on August 7, 2025: Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation.
Not all tasks have the same scoring impact. Students usually gain the most by mastering high-weight integrated tasks first.
Avenue usually tells students to build their study plan around the highest-impact tasks before spending too much time on lower-return question types.
Yes. Self-study at home is possible if you are disciplined and already have a reasonable English base. The key is not just watching tips, but following a daily routine with speaking, listening, reading, writing, and mock-test review.
