UK Interview

UK student visa interview preparation

Use this page to prepare for the UK credibility or visa preparation interview with stronger answers around university choice, accommodation, course fit, funding, and your plans after graduation.

UK interview questions often focus on whether you genuinely understand your university, course, finances, accommodation plan, and reasons for choosing the UK over Nepal or another destination.

Study in UK

Personal and University Basics

  • Be ready to state your full name, passport number, and date of birth clearly.

  • What is the name of your university and where is it located?

(Know the full university name, campus address, and city.)

  • Where will you stay while studying in the UK?

(Be ready to explain whether it is university accommodation, private housing, or still under research, and mention distance from the university.)

  • What accommodation arrangements have you made?

(Mention booking status, distance from campus, and why the location works for your studies.)

  • What facilities does your university offer in general and for your course?

(You can mention international student support, student union, library, welfare support, accommodation office, societies, sports facilities, and course-specific support.)

  • What research did you do before choosing this university?

(A strong answer usually compares at least a few universities and explains why this one matched your goals best.)

  • What do you know about this university?

(Know its location, ranking, support services, international reputation, and employability strengths.)

  • Which other universities did you consider and why did you not choose them?

(Compare ranking, fees, scholarships, location, delivery mode, employability, and student support.)

  • Know the place where you will study.

(Research the area, public transport, nearby stations, airport access, and when the university was established.)

  • Be prepared if asked about the current Prime Minister of the UK.

(This can change, so verify it before interview day.)

Course Knowledge and Academic Fit

  • When does your course start and when does it end?

(Check your offer letter, CAS, and university website carefully.)

  • What is the full name of your course and what qualification will you receive?

(Know the exact course title, level, and award.)

  • What modules will you study and how are they assessed?

(Be ready to mention module names and explain assessments such as exams, reports, presentations, seminars, research, and practical work.)

  • Why did you choose this course?

(Connect your academic or work background to the future career you want and explain how this course helps you get there.)

  • How will this course help your future career plans?

(Your answer should connect your background, your target role, and the career outcomes of the course.)

  • How many credits are studied each year and what is the total number required for the degree?

(Use the university website, offer letter, or course handbook to learn this.)

  • If this course is different from your previous studies, why did you change direction?

(Give a clear and logical reason, such as moving from technical knowledge into management or specialization.)

  • Could you explain your previous qualification and what you learned from it?

(Mention your specialization, knowledge gained, and any related work experience.)

  • At what level are you going to study?

(Bachelor is usually level 6, master level 7, and doctorate level 8.)

Why the UK and Why Not Nepal

  • Why did you choose the UK as your study destination?

(A stronger answer usually mentions globally respected qualifications, strong teaching quality, employability, international exposure, and the value of British education.)

  • Why not stay in Nepal if the course is available there?

(Focus on global exposure, practical learning, international competitiveness, and the career value of an overseas degree instead of speaking negatively about Nepal.)

  • Do you have relatives or friends studying in the UK or at this university?

(Be truthful and keep your answer simple.)

  • Why does university ranking matter in your decision?

(You can explain that rankings help compare quality, reputation, student outcomes, and informed decision-making.)

  • Important factors when choosing a UK university

(Mention ranking, subject ranking, location, cost of living, student satisfaction, research strength, international student ratio, and career support.)

Study Gap, Future Plans, and Immigration History

  • If there has been a gap in your studies, what was the reason?

(Explain the break honestly and show how work or other activities added experience that now supports your next course.)

  • What do you plan to do after graduation?

(A strong answer usually explains returning home with better skills, knowledge, and competitiveness in your field.)

  • Do you plan any further study or training after this course?

(Only mention this if it is a genuine and realistic part of your long-term plan.)

  • If you are married and plan to bring your spouse, how will that affect your studies?

(Explain that your dependant supports household stability and will not interfere with your academic focus.)

  • Have you ever had a visa refusal or visited the UK before?

(Be truthful and consistent with your application history.)

Finance and Work Rights

  • How will you fund your studies?

(Be clear whether the funds are yours, from parents, a loan, or official sponsorship, and make sure the answer matches your documents.)

  • How much are your course fees?

(Know the tuition amount from your CAS or offer letter.)

  • Who is paying your tuition fees and living costs, and where did the money come from?

(If the money recently entered the account, be prepared to explain the source clearly.)

  • What if your family financial situation changes in the future?

(Show that your planning is realistic and stable.)

  • How much is the living cost in the UK?

(As of current UK Student visa guidance, the financial requirement is £1,529 per month in London or £1,171 per month outside London, for up to 9 months.)

  • How long must the funds be held before application?

(Current UK guidance says the required funds must usually be held for 28 consecutive days, ending within 31 days of the application date.)

  • Could you explain the work restrictions for UK students?

(For a full-time degree-level course at a compliant higher education provider, official UK guidance allows up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time work outside term time. Some jobs are still prohibited.)

  • Will you work while studying?

(Do not present work as the main funding source. It is safer to frame it as experience, confidence-building, and exposure to workplace culture.)

  • If you have a loan, how do you plan to pay it back?

(Connect this to your future earning potential after graduation.)

  • What financial documents should you be ready to explain?

(Typical evidence includes bank statements, parent support letter if applicable, birth certificate if using parent funds, and clear proof of the source of money.)

Short Final Reminders

  • Know your IELTS score, including weaker bands.

(If one band is lower, be ready to explain how you will manage during study.)

  • Review your university website, CAS, offer letter, accommodation plan, and transport details before interview day.

  • Keep your answers natural, specific, and consistent with your file.
